Hyoutan zuke
Hyoutan ( gourd) is said to be the world's oldest cultivated plant, and has long been popular as a daily necessities and ornaments. There have been few examples of edible gourd, and this Shibazuke Hyotan is the first edible gourd to be successfully commercialized through our original development. (Shibazuke is a Kyoto specialty pickle made of cucumber, eggplant, perilla leaves (shiso), ginger and myoga (a mild flavored relative of ginger) pickled in plum vinegar (umezu), a byproduct of making pickled plums (umeboshi). The salty, slightly sour, purple pickles are commonly served in Kyoto cuisine .This unprecedented "eating gourd" can be used for a wide range of occasions such as weddings and New Year's celebration.
